Passage to Sardinia: 3 weeks of gales in Menorca > Posted on 20/08/06
We finally got our small weather window to cross to Sardinia after 3 weeks of waiting in Fornells, Menorca. The 190nM passage was a mixture of sailing and motoring as the wind was quite variable and, due to the past storms, the sea was very confused and uncomfortable. During the first night we experienced a massive lightening storm; which although very visually dramatic was also very unnerving! After 38hrs at sea we made landfall at Capo San Marco, picking up a free mooring buoy under the ancient ruins of Tharros for the night. |

STORM UPDATE: 14 days in Fornells - Menorca > Posted on 10/08/06
We are currently, after 2 weeks, still in Fornells waiting for a weather window to cross to Sardinia. Storms out of the Gulf de Leon have been raging almost non-stop and we have been sitting out over 46knots of wind in the anchorage at times. It looks like we won't be able to set sail until at least next week! We've made good use of our time here, despite the weather; we've been lucky to have our good friends on WHOOSH as neighbours and had chance to catch up with Tom Kelly and family (former work colleague) when they were in Menorca on their summer holiday.
